I read The Midnight Library by Matt Haig over vacation and loved it. The premise is a girl on the edge of death who's offerred an opportunity to visit the various lives she would have lived, had she made even slightly different choices. It's something we've probably all considered at some point. She grapples with grief, emotional unhealth, and the definition of success. She tackles her many regrets and actually sees some of her dreams realized, all with their corresponding costs, of course.
The writing is quality and quick. Without spoiling it, I loved the end. Her revelations and subsequent poetry are brilliant and wise. They reminded me somewhat of the movie "About Time," which also recognizes the value and beauty of our experiences, despite their sometimes very painful consequences. It's another story about being able to revisit your past and do it slightly differently. It's hilarious and heart-warming (but also rated R). Check them both out!
