With all the tasks that come with adulting, it's easy to lose track of your present self. We're constantly looking forward and backward just to survive. The responsibilities can be crushing.
Without some intentionality we can be swallowed by productivity and despair. Here are some basic steps to come back into the present and the joy it holds.
Pay attention to your senses. Your body has the ability to ground you just by alerting you to the present moment. What do you hear? Smell? Taste? Feel? See? Just name the things you notice and enjoy the ones you can.
Practice gratitude. What are you thankful for? Who has given you those things? Savor them for a moment.
What can you do right here and now? Just naming one simple task you could tackle and accomplish can give you back your sense of agency. You do own your life and you do have power.
The empires of life give the strong impression that we're not going to make it out alive, but have hope; we're all in this together. I'm praying to the Creator Who Sets Free for those of you today who are feeling defeated.
