Teach a Child to Think

Author Christine Bott has been a friend of Brandi's for almost twenty years. They have raised their kids together and have worked together on several writing projects. Christine is a rockstar single mom of 3 nearly-grown kids and works full time as a manager for a large company.

I love teaching. Whether it is in a professional setting, a Sunday school class, or teaching one of my kids to cook something new; it is a thrill. I love taking something and breaking it down into small memorable pieces while watching their brains absorb and process.

When I teach for church, my favorite group is 7th and 8th graders. These kids are starting to think like adults, but still young enough respect their teachers. I love to throw a scenario or question at them to see what they come up with. Sometimes, when things are really going well, you can see them make real life applications. It is so amazing to see the lightbulb go off. It makes the hours of trying to pull their attention off their phones worth it.

When was the last time you had the opportunity to teach someone? In our current environment of Google and YouTube, it's convenient to allow our kids and employees to just use their phones to find answers. I challenge you to take a few extra minutes to teach something today instead.
